In Board of Aldermen Sept 4, 1837
The Committee on the Fire Dept to whom was referred the communications of Clinton Roosevelt regarding a torpedo invented by him for destroying buildings in case of extensive conflatoration ask leave to report, that it is impossible to determine without inspection , the value of the invention & as applicant has sent neither model nor drawing of the invention, they are unable to judge [illegible] of the probability in respect to it. They therefore ask to be discharged from the further consideration of the subject.
