Early years
This report of the Committee on School for Deaf Mutes dates to 1873, the fourth year of the school's operation. The term "deaf mutes" was commonly used in the 18th and 19th centuries, but is no longer considered respectful and has since been abandoned for the terms "deaf" and "hard of hearing." The Committee's report conveys the enthusiasm and dedication of all those involved in the school's founding and early years.
